I don’t typically write new year resolutions. Considering that 2017 was a life changing year for me, I reflected on its challenges and triumphs. In doing so, I meditated and decided to give myself permission to release a few things into my life as I move forward.
I decided to share in case you wish to give yourself permissions in 2018 as well.
- Say no to that which I discern is no longer fruitful in my life. This is simply about choices. Choices to live a happy, holy and wholesome life. I give myself permission to measure everything and everyone by that barometer, then choose accordingly.
- Say yes, to God and all that He has for me. No further is explanation necessary.
- Take care of me – I admit that I’ve subconsciously found it easier to take care of others before caring for myself. As I’ve recognized this about myself, I’ve become more aware and intentional about the concept of self-care.
- Claim my time, so I don’t have to reclaim it. In other words, I will be proactive in claiming my time. I give myself permission in advance to take some down time before I feel overwhelmed.
- Walk in newness. Saying Farewell to Cindy Mo (mom) last May brought a pain like no other. Alas, I remember who’s daughter I am, and I recall our final conversation. She told me that I had been a great daughter. I know she would want me to embrace this new normal and live, and not wallow in pain as I honor her legacy. With this in mind, I give myself permission to experience new things this year.
Sometimes in life, we are held back because we seek and await permission from others. If peradventure that validation never comes, we find ourselves at a stand still. This is the year to give ourselves permission to go beyond what at one time had been normal, as we await the blessings of God to manifest in our lives.
